The last day of school was on Thursday. Big giant smiley face.
We'll still be finishing up Latin and Life of Fred, but that won't take long, nor will it annoy anyone.

The World in Ancient Times. And the boys did a great job at working on their own.
This summer will be spent learning the Cyrillic alphabet because next year's big project is learning Uzbek while we live in southern Kyrgyzstan. But that's a whole nother post.
My husband picked this one up for me, after someone at a conference on Central Asian literature recommended it to him. It's a different sort of book, about Russian literature, a summer spent studying Uzbek in Samarqand, and graduate programs. There were a lot of laugh-out-loud spots in the first half of the book and I really enjoyed that part. But about halfway through it ran out of steam and was mostly boring the rest of the way. So it's worth getting it and starting it, and then quitting when you get bored.
This was a book group read that I probably wouldn't have picked up otherwise. I liked it, although it wouldn't have been tragic if I'd never read it (or listened to it, in this case). But still, a pleasant and reasonably interesting book.
I just finished this book and I liked it. It's different in some ways from anything I've ever read, but it felt familiar too. I liked that it wasn't all just words on a page (this book wouldn't work as well as an audiobook). I loved the end and felt hopeful after reading it. I can see that not everyone would enjoy it though.
I'm finally finishing this book after giving it a try a few times and abandoning it because it's so looong. But I listened to it this time (all 31 hours) and enjoyed it. It's a good book and worth the time.
I thoroughly enjoyed this new book by Grant Hardy. This book looks at the literary structure of the Book of Mormon and how its three primary authors used their narratives to further their goals. Worth reading, even if the title isn't exactly appealing.
It seems like everyone has already read this one, so I finally got around to reading it too and liked it. It turned out to be the perfect book for this week; I'm sure there are other times I wouldn't have finished it. But this week I enjoyed reading it slowly and loved the detail and the story.
