I like listening to audiobooks in general, but some books are better listened to than read. I think Edith Wharton's books are like that, read by the right reader. Like one of my friends said, no one does despair as well as Wharton, and hearing it is even worse (or better). Her books aren't happy, at all, but so good still. I'm not sure if I liked Ethan Frome better than House of Mirth, but I liked it as much and agree that it's probably the best Wharton to read, if you're going to read just one.
