Another cookbook that has worked for us is Boarding the Ark Today by Jane P. Merrill. (I'm not big on the title and the little hearts scattered throughout the book though.) It has lots of "normal" recipes for whole grains, beans, etc. It is very basic. My husband actually uses it more than I do. He is not a cook, but he can turn out good food from this book. If you're having trouble with food storage, or just want to eat healthier, this is a good book.
I don't recall the book promoting LDS doctrine anywhere, even though it it based on the LDS goal of a year's supply of food.
