Roses...

I was poking around the list of blogs at WTM and came upon Linda's blog. She has a beautiful picture of a camellia from her own garden. I can't even imagine flowers in January. I've never lived anywhere that it was a possiblity. But it certainly brought back memories of my rose garden.

My garden was filled with old garden roses and English (Austin) roses. I've never really gone in for Hybrid Teas. Linda also has a handy link to EveryRose, which lists over 7000 roses. I think this is the site for me. :)

I had Alfred de Dalmas, Souvenir du Docteur Jamain, Sharifa Asma, Madame Pierre Oger, Ghislaine de Feligonde, Hebe's Lip, Belle Story, Bow Bells, Fantin Latour, Celestial, Marie Pavie, Nur Mahal, and Eden. There were 2 or 3 or 10 of some of these, for a total of 30. I couldn't believe the number of blooms I had the first Spring with Fantin Latour. I've been parital to Sharifa Asma for years, since I started taking Arabic. Ghislaine would cover herself all summer with beautiful peachy-colored flowers. Some of them, like Hebe's Lip and Fantin Latour and Celestial only bloom in the Spring, but they are definitely worth it.

I miss my roses.

Hi Amira,

Flowers in January. Well, I am almost neighbors with Linda so I am used to Flowers in January. :)

I bet your Rose Garden was beautiful!

Hi Amira! I followed the link from your comment at my blog and was delighted to see this post. We have the same taste in roses! I have always loved Austins and Sharifa Asma was one of the first in my garden. The rose photo in my profile is another Austin called Perdita. Nothing like the fragrance of OGRs and English roses!

Your OGR list has me positively swooning. :-)

Sharifa was the first rose I ever bought, when I was a teenager. We went to Oregon and stopped at Heirloom Old Garden Roses. I carried that little rose on the airplane and it did beautifully at home. We even named our first house Sharifa and had 3 Sharifa Asmas planted around the bay window. :)
